They are enjoyable for a 5 speed because the most common shift exiting low to medium speed turns is going from 2nd to 3rd.
A dogleg in a 5 speed also means that, after getting out of first, you only need to move over (side to side) between up and down gates once during spirited driving (3rd to 4th change ), whereas a normal 5 speed requires two moves (2nd to 3rd change and 4th to 5th change ).
That said, a good shifter and transmission is really the only thing that matters.
Bu t I for one think a dogleg 6 speed would be nice. Even most modern 6 and 7 speeds use 2nd through 5th for the majority of tracks and spirited driving.
